Planning a bridal shower is all about friends, family, and food! It is important to come up with a bridal shower menu well ahead of time, so that you can be sure you have all the food you need. Showers are different depending on the size of the group, the venue, and the budget – not to mention the style! While some brides have intimate gatherings at a friend’s house, others are in the spotlight at gala type luncheon affairs. Whether you’re planning something small or something big, planning the menu is an important step.
Menu Planning for a Large Affair If you are having the shower at a restaurant or a venue, your contact there will be able to walk you through the various dining options. Typically, a proper luncheon will consist of an appetizer, such as soup or salad; a main course; and a dessert. The main course would likely be salmon, chicken, or pasta. Some venues will offer a limited menu with a “prix fixe” which will allow your guests to choose from several options.
A Lunch at Home If you have decided to serve a lunch at home, chances are it will be a little more casual. Consider making something that will easily feed a crowd, such as lasagna and salad, or a big pot of chili with corn bread. Or, create a buffet-style luncheon featuring typical “ladies lunch” favorites, such as devilled eggs, miniature sandwiches, and a variety of salads, veggies, charcuterie items and breads with cheeses.
A Casual Affair A Bridal shower doesn’t need to include a formal lunch. Much of what you serve will be dictated by the timing of the event. If, for example, your shower is set to run from 2pm until 4pm, guests will expect some light refreshments – not a full course lunch. Make a menu that consists of a few savory items, a few sweet items, and lots of beverages.
Theme Menus If you’re hosting a bridal shower with a theme, be sure to carry it through into your menu! Hosting a Hawaiian Shower? Time to make Hawaiian punch! For a lingerie shower, bake a cake shaped like a camisole! Maybe you have a specific color theme. Whether it’s purple, orange, or blue, there’s surely a food that will work with your hue! Can’t think of anything? Cupcakes are a great way to make a theme work for you – you can top them with nearly anything!
What a Bride Wants If your bride-to-be has any specific food likes or dislikes, or allergies, be sure to take them into consideration while planning your menu. If she is a vegetarian, why not come up with a veggie based menu that she’ll love? If she loves chocolate, consider hosting a “chocolate bridal shower” and have each guest bring a different chocolate dessert. Planning a menu is an important part of planning a wonderful bridal shower. It should reflect the overall theme of the day, whether that is casual, elegant, or somewhere in between. -- Bridal Shower Menu --
