Easy, Delectable
Bridal Shower Favors to Make

-- Bridal Shower Favors to Make --

Choose your adjective: Moist. Buttery. Luscious. Melt-in-your-mouth. Chewy.

There are perhaps no better bridal shower favors to make than yummy, Grandma-caliber treats.

And should this surprise us? The majority of people welcome sweets of all kinds - including the most discerning guests. And unlike some bridal shower favors, you can bet that these homemade goodies will be put to good use!

Sure, you could just pop open a bag of candy, fill some little favor baggies, and be done with it. But creating your own homemade bridal shower favors is a gesture that employs your heart as much as your hands. It speaks volumes to the bride and your guests that they're worth the extra effort and time.

Below, I've included tips and some of my own family recipes for treats to get your guests' mouths watering! Have fun choosing the perfect bridal shower favors to make.

1. Chocolate-Covered Strawberries
At your local craft store, browse the candy melts section for available colors and flavors. Think of how you want to coat and decorate your strawberries. For example, you might simply dip them in milk chocolate, or drizzle dark chocolate over a white, vanilla-flavored base. Melt the desired amount of chocolate in a microwaveable bowl, following the package instructions. Then start dipping and designing to your heart's content (and your guests' pleasure)!

2. Chocolate-Covered Pretzels
The same idea as above with an added crunch factor! You may want to create pretzels in more than one color. This adds variety for both the eyes and the taste buds to each favor bundle.

3. Chocolate-Covered Espresso Beans
If the bride loves a morning cup, she'll get a kick out of this thoughtful chocolate bridal shower favor.

4. Caramel Popcorn
Bags of caramel popcorn make delicious, unexpected treats for your guests. Follow the recipe below for simple homemade bridal shower favors with great snackability!

Great Grammie's Caramel Popcorn

2/3 cup unpopped popping corn (4 quarts popped)
1 stick butter
1/4 cup light corn syrup
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. baking soda

  • On the stove, pop the corn according to package directions.
  • In a saucepan, cook all ingredients (except popcorn) for 5 minutes, bringing it to a low boil.
  • In a mixing bowl, pour the syrup mixture over popped corn. Mix thoroughly.
  • Divide popcorn among two 9 x 13 pans greased with butter. Use wax paper to flatten it out and push it into the corners of the pans.
  • Bake at 225 degrees for 1 hour 15 minutes.
  • Cut caramel popcorn into chunks while warm.
  • To cool, put it in an open tin or container. Place a piece of wax paper at base of tin to prevent sticking. Once cool, cover the container with lid to store.

    5. Homemade Cookies
Cluster two or three of your favorite freshly baked cookies into a clear plastic treat bag, and tie it off with a thin ribbon. For added enjoyment, first punch a hole in the top corner of an individually-wrapped tea bag. Lace the ribbon through the hole and tie it to the bridal shower cookie favor. What a yummy combination!

    6. Fudge
Certainly the richest among edible bridal shower favors, fudge is a most welcome sight. Wrap fudge squares in parchment paper and top them with your own personalized bridal shower labels!

    7. Candy Molds
Create truffles, peanut butter cups, colorful chocolate shapes, and more, all with basic candy molds. Most molds contain directions and neat decorating ideas, such as dusting truffles and painting different colors onto the molds. They're one of the easiest bridal shower favors to make.

    8. Inspired Cookie Cutouts
Find cookie cutters that speak to the theme of the bridal shower: a starfish or palm tree for beach bridal showers, a teapot for tea parties, an airplane for travel showers, and so on. If you don't have a running theme, you can employ more universal shapes like a dress, shoe, heart, ring, or umbrella (remember, this is a shower)! To decorate your cookies, spread a layer of icing overtop. Round cutouts make the perfect empty canvas; after a coating of icing dries, draw on the bride's initial or short words in a complementary color of icing. Cookie cutouts satisfy those desiring both personalized and homemade bridal shower favors.

For an extra sweet gesture, accompany your treats with customized tags or labels.

Include the bride's name and the date of the shower, as well as any fun phrases you wish. Sayings like "Sweet Things are in Store for (Bride)!" and "Isn't Love Delicious?" allow your bridal shower favors to make a particularly fitting statement! If you want to add a border or graphic to the favor tags, browse a clipart or royalty-free image program, or upload your own pictures.

    • Pair plastic favor bags with small tags that hang from a ribbon.

    • Place adhesive bridal shower labels on paper bags and favor boxes. You can easily create these by printing your design onto sticker paper.

    • Wrap-around labels look elegant on boxes. To make these, align the image in the center of the document, and print onto the paper of your choice. If you fear the paper won't be long enough to reach around the favor box once, change the page orientation to "Landscape," shifting your design the long way. Cut the paper into strips to create your individual labels, and adhere them to the boxes. Printing onto sticker paper will save you the trouble of ensuring that you glue thoroughly enough to keep regular paper fixed.
