Jack and Jill Bridal Shower

More and more couples are taking care of all the wedding details as a team – so a Jack and Jill Bridal Shower is a great choice!

If you decide to make planning the shower a joint effort, doing things like putting together the invitations, setting the guest list or choosing the perfect venue will be a fun way to get creative and to spend some time together.

Showers shouldn’t just be for the ladies; especially if you and your partner enjoy the same things! Get together with your friends – and each other – and mix things up to enjoy a fun shower that’s totally inclusive!

Going Traditional? Here are the Basics

If you’ve always dreamed of a traditional bridal shower, but you want to include your future hubby, you can easily have the best of both worlds. The rule? Stay away from over-the-top girly lace bows, cupcakes, and frills; everything else will come naturally.

Here are some basics to start things off:

- Start the shower in the afternoon

- Have a traditional gift opening

- Serve snacks and finger foods

- Play games that both sexes will enjoy

- Hold the shower within two months – two weeks before the wedding day

- Only invite guests who are invited to the wedding

Jack and Jill Bridal Shower Do's and Don’ts

Any time of the day is fine for a shower, though traditional showers are typically held in the afternoon. Co-ed showers are often held at more of a cocktail hour, though they may be full day affairs if you’re planning a day at the beach, the park, or some other local attraction – maybe even a local theme-park! Games make great ice breakers, especially in a mixed crowd, so get the ball rolling quickly with something amusing. If you’re planning for your pals, remind them to register for items – and if it’s a theme shower their items should match the theme.

- Do: Use unisex colors when decorating

- Don’t: Use girly decorations, such as bows, lace and frills.

- Do: Hold the event at a cocktail hour, which is popular for co-ed showers

- Do: Choose a local venue that offers fun events and entertainment for both sexes, such as a beach, a park or renting out a section of a bar or pub.

- Do: Play a mix of music that suites both the bride and the groom

- Don’t: Separate groups by sex, whether for games, seating, eating arrangements, etc.

- Do: Find a unisex theme to stick to throughout the shower (see below)

- Do: Have ice breaker games that will get the ball rolling and get both sexes mingling

- Don’t: Play games that are more tailored towards one sex’s hobbies

Jack and Jill Bridal Shower Themes

Get Grilling

Everyone loves a barbecue – so go ahead and get grilling! Celebrate your upcoming marriage with a barbecue themed shower! Guests can be asked to bring along a grill-worth accessory, or even pitch in on a new grill for the happy couple. The food? That’s easy – serve up sausages, chicken, and pork kabobs, along with some fresh garden salads!

Favors – personalized BBQ sauce, hot sauce and BBQ lighters

Food – Sausages, BBQ chicken, beef or pork, ribs, burgers, corn on the cob, shish kebabs, grilled vegetables

Stock the Bar

Whether the couple is moving into a new house, enjoying a wine-themed honeymoon, or just loves to relax with a delicious cocktail, a “stock the bar” theme is fabulous for a Jack and Jill bridal shower! Gift giving is made simple for guests, who can bring along a simple bottle of wine or a stylish bar accessory as a gift. Just be careful not to drink the gift items at the party!

Favors – Wine stoppers, martini/wine glasses, cocktail shakers, bottle openers

Food – Fancy horsd'oeuvres, have the meal and appetizers catered, have a bartender at a bar, sushi

Cake – A cake in the shape of a martini glass, cupcakes on tiers, red velvet cake, rum balls or other booze flavored treats.

The Active Couple

On weekends, they’re off hiking. After work, they can be found on a local bike trail. For the outdoorsy couple who loves to enjoy one another's company in the great outdoors, an outdoor themed shower is a must!

Get the crew together and shower them with camping and outdoor related gifts. In fact, you could even turn the Jack and Jill bridal shower into a weekend at a fishing cabin, a rock-climbing adventure, or a white-water rafting thrill ride!

Favors – Personalized fishing lures, camping chairs, koozies, flint stones, matches, sunscreen, bug spray, sunflower seed packets, smores kits

Food – Smores, hot dogs, BBQ chicken pork or beef, chips, trail mix, mini sandwiches, fish and wild game.

Planning a Jack & Jill Shower is a fun way to get both the bride and the groom’s pals together – everyone will remember each other at the wedding! Have fun planning!
